FREESTYLE CLINIC
Saturday, November 22, 2008
1:00-5:30pm
As the triathlon season comes to an end this is the perfect time to revisit technique and rethink strategy for the next season. For the first time ever, Julington Creek Plantation CDD will be hosting a Swimming Clinic focused on freestyle (front crawl) for both Triathletes and Masters Swimmers. We have contacted Swimming Technology Research to conduct the freestyle clinic . STR is a Tallahassee-based company that uses cutting edge technology to analyze your swimming technique and give you the strategies and tools to make needed changes. STR’s clinics help participants learn how to swim faster and provide valuable feedback about individual strengths and weaknesses. Both clinics will be conducted by Dr. Rod Havriluk. (Dr. Havriluk is a sports scientist, former coach, masters swimmer, and recognized authority on swimming technique.) In addition, Mark Corley, the Head Swim Coach of our very own Julington Creek Loggerhead Aquatics Swim Team will be on site to answer questions, offer workouts and help with technique. Coach Corley is a certified Triathlon Coach by USAT. The value of this clinic is $119.00, but for CDD Residents we are offering it for $30.00 and for Hammerhead Members/Non-Residents it is $40.00.

Triathlete Instruction & Analysis Clinic:
The first half of this clinic will be instructional, again focusing on optimizing technique. After the instructional session, each participant will have their technique analyzed during a pool testing session with Aquanex+Video. Aquanex+Video captures and then synchronizes underwater video and hand force data. This will be followed by another classroom session that reviews the information obtained on each swimmer. Participants receive individual feedback about their trials and are given personalized cues that they can see or feel to improve their technique. Aquanex+Video clinics are extremely effective for both reinforcing positive technique elements and identifying limiting factors. Each participant receives a CD of his or her trials with Aquanex Viewer, so they can watch their trials at home.

December Meeting/Party
Wednesday, December 03, 2008

The December Holiday Party will be Wednesday, December 3rd at the Palms Marsh Landing at 7 PM. This was the location of our October Luau Party and if this one is as successful as the last, everyone is sure to have a good time! There will be door prizes given out and holiday fixins to eat. We will also be providing a keg of beer to kick off our holiday season in style! We ask for a $5 donation at the door to help in the cost of food. We will be giving out three awards this year, Male Triathlete of the Year, Female Triathlete of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year. Please send nominations to Angie Crawford at angietropical@gmail.com. The winners will have to be present at the holiday party because we will be cheering for them to win. The evite will be sent out soon, so please reply promptly with the correct number of people so we don't have a wrong estimate of people like we did last year. Come join your fellow triathletes and friends to help celebrate a great 2008!

BrickFest 2009
Saturday, February 28, 2009
IT BEGINS DEC 1!
Let's get a good turnout this year for Brickfest 2008 during the months of December, January, and February. Get excited about the off-season and the fact that all you HAVE to do to complete this challenge is to workout for an hour! That's easy, so let's get to it! Here are the rules:
1. You must do seven consecutive days of seven bricks.
2. They must be running (could be done on treadmill), swimming and/or biking (can be a spin class or done on a trainer).
3. You must do a minimum of 30 minutes each event, for a minimum of one hour per day.
4. Events do NOT need to be done right after the other, for example, you can run in the morning and bike in the evening
5. Events must be two different types (you can't run on the treadmill for 30 mins then run on the road for 30 mins).
6. If you miss a workout day, you must start over, so the bricks are during seven consecutive days.
7. If you are already planning on doing a long workout of one discipline, just tack on a 30 minute workout of one of the other disciplines.

As you complete your week, send an e-mail to Angie Crawford at angietropical@gmaill.com. All those that successfully complete the brickfest will earn a coveted pair of non-cotton workout socks. Let's face it-we all have enough tshirts!

So, pick a week and start your workouts!

National Club Challenge begins Dec 1
Wednesday, February 28, 2029
The National Club Challenge will be December (swim month), January (bike month), and February (run month). This is designed to help people stay involved with training throughout the off season and it's a great way to come together as a club and compete with clubs throughout the nation. There are benchmarks for each month: swim 750 miles in December, bike 10,000 miles in January, and run 3000 miles in February. Prizes are given to the first club to meet these mileages each month. They also give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for the most club swim mileage in December, most bike mileage in January, and most run mileage in February, as well as an overall mileage combined throughout the three disciplines at the end. Individual awards will also be given to top performing individuals in each category. The mileage has to be reported on the last day of each month in order for us to get credit, so make sure you email Angie Crawford at angietropical@gmail.com as soon as you complete your mileage on the last day of each month so she can put it into the national system before it's too late. Please email her weekly as you complete your training. Remember that spin classes also count toward mileage so if you did an hour class, put down 20 miles. Also, if you workout on a trainer, that counts as well. If you are interested, please email Angie your USAT number and age with your first training miles.

Last year, we made it a goal to try to do well in the overall run mileage because the 26.2 with Donna is in February. We placed in overall run mileage last year, so let's go for that goal again, as well as placing higher in the overall standings and trying harder to meet the benchmarks for each month. If I see you training out there, there better be an email in my inbox telling me your mileage!

Starting Monday, December 1st, log all of your swim miles from your masters swim classes and email them to me
Thursday, January 1st- Polar Plunge at the beach, followed by a group bike ride to start out the bike month with lots of mileage
Sunday, February 1st- group run and social
Sunday, February 15th- 26.2 with Donna -everyone who is registering for the half and full marathons HAS to give me their training mileage and race mileage

So, let's get out there and show the nation what the Hammerheads are made of!
